Ingredients

  • 3 to 4 cups sliced frozen bananas see notes for the best freezing technique
  • frozen or fresh berries, mango, or peach chunks optional, for fruity variations
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter or almond butter optional, for a creamy nutty twist
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder optional, for chocolate lovers
  • 1 scoop protein powder optional, vanilla chocolate or strawberry
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional, for warm spice notes
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional, to enhance sweetness and depth
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey optional, for extra sweetness and smoothness

Instructions

  • Select ripe bananas: Choose bananas with yellow skin and a few brown speckles for optimal sweetness and texture.
  • Peel and slice: Peel the bananas and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
  • Freeze on a tray: Arrange banana slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet in a single layer and freeze for at least 4 hours or overnight until solid.
  • Transfer to storage: Once frozen solid, transfer the banana slices to a freezer bag or airtight container where they can be stored for up to 3 months.
  • Add to blender: Place 3 to 4 cups of frozen banana slices into a high-powered blender or food processor.
  • Pulse first: Pulse the bananas 2 to 3 times to break them into smaller pieces, about 30 seconds total.
  • Blend until creamy: Blend on medium-high speed for 3 to 5 minutes, scraping down the sides occasionally with a spatula, until the mixture reaches a soft-serve consistency.
  • Add mix-ins optional: If desired, add your chosen flavor enhancers such as peanut butter, cocoa powder, berries, or vanilla extract during the final 30 seconds of blending for even distribution.
  • Serve immediately: Serve your frozen banana ice cream right away for the best soft-serve texture, or freeze for an additional 30 minutes if you prefer a firmer consistency.
